Austin, Texas, U.S.A. – May 25, 2025 – – /LaGuardia Media PR Presswire/– –The recently proposed bill to ban all THC products in Texas has passed with a 95-44 vote. Texas SB3 “draws a bright, enforceable line with no wiggle room”, states Dr. Oliverson, a proponent of the bill. “No more Delta 8, no more Delta 10, or chemically-altered THC extracts. No more legal gray zones.” Dr. Tom Oliverson represents Texas’s 130th State House District in northwest Harris County including the communities of Tomball, Cypress, Waller, and Hockley. His statement signifies the alignment of the Senate and the House on this issue.
However, not all representatives supported the bill, some citing the difficulty of access it would cause for those who depend on THC products for their health and well-being. Representative Josey Garcia opposed the amendment, stating that veterans who use THC products to combat issues such as pain and PTSD would be left to suffer.
“A total ban on THC products is establishing a very dangerous precedent for our veterans to have access to relief now,” explains Representative Garcia.
Even with an exception in the bill allowing for “compassionate use”, adults would face up to a year in jail for possession of THC products. Among the prohibited products are Delta 8, THC/THCA infused beverages, and Delta 9, as well as extracts, concentrates and edibles. If there is a silver lining for the consumable THC industry in Texas, it is only that they amended the amendment to allow THC to continue to be used for medical research.
Several Organizations have spoken out in opposition of the bill. The Texas Hemp Business Council issued a statement saying “We are deeply disappointed by the Texas House’s passage of [SB3], a bill that dismantles the legal hemp industry and ignores the voices of small businesses, farmers, veterans and consumers across the state who rely on hemp-derived products for their livelihoods and well-being,”
One such small business owner issued this statement: “They are trying to ban flavored nicotine vapes as well. This week has been full-on ‘work and fight’ on a political level for my business and industry” – Ahmad Alnajjar, owner of Trippiez Smoke Shop in Austin, Texas.
Several business owners in Texas are concerned that this new bill will eventually lead to their shops closing down, however, they say they are not going down without a fight.
