Born on January 31, 1948, in Fremont, Ohio, Marilyn was the daughter of Ambrose Lakomy and Marvail Lerch Lakomy. She completed her education at St. Joseph’s High School in Fremont in 1965 before pursuing higher education in nursing at a university in Detroit, Michigan. It was there that she met her future husband, Rod Sitzman. The couple married and had a devoted partnership that lasted over 54 years. Together, they raised a family that includes three sons and a daughter, as well as eight grandchildren—six granddaughters and two grandsons.

Throughout their marriage, Marilyn and Rod lived in several locations, including Australia, Arizona, and primarily settled in Houston, Texas, where they focused on raising their children. After many years in Houston, the family moved to Austin, where they became active members of their community. In Austin, Marilyn returned to her nursing career until she and Rod retired in 2013.

During retirement, the couple embraced their love for travel, exploring vast regions of the American West, Canada, and Alaska in their RV. Among their travel highlights was a memorable 10-day journey to Israel with a church group. These trips created lasting memories for the family, especially as Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren during their adventures.

Marilyn was passionate about various hobbies, including photography, nature, and quilting. This commitment to creativity and exploration spilled over into her community involvement as well. She was a longtime member of the Hill Country Bible Church, where she served in the Special Needs ministry for many years, reflecting her compassion and dedication to helping others.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Rod, their sons Darius (with Alison), Justin (with Samantha), Alex, and daughter Eva Berry (with Jeff), along with her cherished grandchildren. The legacy Marilyn leaves behind is one of love, family, and service, marked by countless cherished moments spent with her loved ones, particularly during their RV trips.

Her family and friends remember her warm spirit and deep faith in Jesus, which played a central role in her life. As a mother and grandmother, she took great joy in celebrating life’s simple pleasures, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those she touched.
