Austin – Local musicians in Central Texas united to support those affected by recent devastating floods with a benefit concert titled “For The Heart of Texas: A Benefit for Kerr County Flood Relief Fund.” Organized by Madison Baker, a member of the alt-country trio Next of Kin, the concert took place at the Long Center in Austin, drawing in an enthusiastic crowd and more than 15 artists joining the cause.

Baker initiated the concert as a response to the overwhelming feelings of helplessness she felt following the flood disaster. The event succeeded in selling approximately 2,000 tickets, according to Bobby Garza, Chief Program Officer at the Long Center. Concert organizers aim to raise around $100,000 for the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, a crucial resource for local recovery efforts.

The flooding that impacted Central Texas has prompted leaders in Austin, Travis, and Williamson counties to search for additional ways to support ongoing relief efforts. In light of the crisis, many community members and local businesses have risen to the occasion to provide assistance through coordinated fundraising events.

Notable contributions from restaurants and businesses include Kerbey Lane All Day Cafe, which plans to donate 100% of profits from all ten locations on Thursday to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. Similarly, P. Terry’s Burger Stand will also contribute by donating 100% of profits from all 36 locations, aiding the Austin Disaster Relief Network’s ongoing campaign. Additionally, Veracruz All Natural is committing to donate 100% of profits from its seven locations to the American Red Cross Hill Country Chapter.

Other participating businesses that have pledged their support include Kesos Tacos, Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill, and Hattie B’s Hot Chicken. Many of these establishments have decided to extend their fundraising efforts beyond the initial dates, with Good Vibration Pizza and Mernin’ Coffee continuing their donations into mid-July.

Furthermore, Central Texas Machine Works has announced its plan to donate $1 from every pretzel, frozen cocktail, and American Lager sold over the weekend to the relief fund. Milam & Greene Whiskey is also participating by donating 15% of all online and distillery sales through July 15 to the Community Foundation of Texas Hill Country.

The collective response of musicians, businesses, and community action reflects the spirit of generosity, kindness, and resilience that Texans are known for during such trying times. Baker expressed hope that this tragedy serves as a reminder of the importance of community and the fleeting nature of life, urging residents to support one another.

As flood recovery efforts continue, the concert and associated fundraising activities highlight the critical need for collective community support during emergencies. The ongoing contributions from local businesses and the musical community exemplify unity in the face of crisis and the power of compassion in difficult times.
