Austin, TX – Roy Bohrer, a respected pastor and notable community leader, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to service and leadership. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Roy was the son of Elroy and Lillie (Fischer). He was baptized on September 19, 1938, and confirmed in 1952 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Inver Grove Heights, MN.

Roy graduated from Rosemount High School in 1956 and attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in 1960. From 1960 to 1964, he served in the US Army Reserves in the Psychological Warfare Unit before achieving a Master of Divinity Degree from Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Springfield, IL, where he was ordained in 1967.

From 1967 to 1989, Roy served as the pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Austin, TX. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in establishing the first kitchen for the Meals on Wheels program in Austin at Christ Lutheran Church and was actively involved in various community senior programs. Roy represented senior interests at the Austin City Council and the Texas Council on Aging, earning numerous commendations for his efforts. He also served as Chair of the Lakeside Senior Activity Center and the Austin Senior Lunch Program, and was part of the building committee for the Conley-Guerrero Senior Center in East Austin.

After leaving the ministry, Roy worked for Association & Society Management Inc in Austin, TX, from 1989 until his retirement in 2005. He served as the Executive Director for 12 non-profit state and national associations and was an influential member of organizations such as Kiwanis, the Religious Conference Managers Association, the Texas Society of Association Executives, and the International Council of Community Churches. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to professional non-profit associations.

In his personal life, Roy was known as a successful speaker, collaborator, mentor, and organizer. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking, and hosting parties. In retirement, he published two books titled “When I Am Older, I Will Pray More” and “Prayerthink.”

Roy is survived by his children, Krista Richter (Randy) of Wimberley, TX, and Jon Bohrer of Austin, TX. He also leaves behind grandchildren Brandun Bohrer of San Antonio, TX, and Samantha Bohrer of Johnson City, TX, in addition to two great-grandchildren, Jonas and Aurora (Rory) Bohrer of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by his brother, Bill Bohrer (Louise) of Stockholm, WI, and was pre-deceased by his son, Mark Bohrer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Martin’s Lutheran Church of Austin Endowment Fund, Hospice Austin, or a charity of choice. A funeral service is scheduled for 3 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, located at 606 West 15th Street, Austin, TX 78701. Visitation will take place prior to the service starting at 2 PM at the church, with interment of ashes to be held privately at a later date at Austin Memorial Park.
