A.G.’s passing marks the end of an era for his family and the many people whose lives he touched throughout his long life.

A.G. was born on November 30, 1927, in Vernon, Texas, to parents Albert Green Walker, Sr. and Lillie Castlebury Walker. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margie Knudsen Walker, and his youngest son, Robert Lynn Walker. He is survived by his son Allen G. Walker and daughter-in-law Sandra B. Walker of Austin, his granddaughter Rebekah L. Walker and grandson Austin G. Walker, along with his wife Lauren R. Walker of Aledo, and three great-grandchildren: Verlin Belle, August Green, and Winter Joy.

A.G.’s early years were defined by his family’s ranch in Vernon, which was purchased in 1907. These formative experiences included hunting and fishing during visits to his grandparents. The family’s lifestyle shifted significantly when A.G.’s father was elected to the Texas State Legislature, compelling them to divide time between Vernon and Austin. In 1942, they moved into a house in the Pemberton Heights neighborhood of Austin, where A.G. operated a newspaper route while completing his education, graduating from Austin High School in 1945.

During his time at the University of Texas, A.G. earned a B.B.A. from 1945 to 1956. His studies were interrupted by military service in the Naval Reserves from 1947 to 1952, followed by Active Duty from 1952 to 1953. A.G. co-founded Lamar Sporting Goods at 19 with George Bolton, which was located at 911 North Lamar but sold his share in 1951 prior to his Navy enlistment. During his military service, A.G. attained the rank of Aviation Structural Mechanic Third Class.

On October 23, 1953, A.G. married Margie and they lived near Point Mugu Naval Air Station until A.G.’s discharge in December 1953. After marriage, they settled into their first home at 3206 Hancock Drive in Austin, where A.G. pursued a law degree at Baylor Law School, graduating in November 1960. Following graduation, he returned to his family’s law practice, Walker & Walker Law Office, which he became the sole owner of after the early death of his father in 1967. Margie made invaluable contributions as his legal secretary.

Active involvement in his children’s lives defined A.G.’s parenting style. He participated in Cub and Boy Scouts, youth baseball, gardening, and family trips to Vernon. The family relocated to 6103 Janey Drive in Allandale in 1966. A.G. and Margie aimed to maintain their parents’ homes as rental properties, becoming hands-on DIY landlords and developing strong relationships with their tenants.

The deregulation of the trucking industry in 1980 prompted A.G. and Margie to frequent their family ranch for maintenance visits. They were active members of St. John’s United Methodist Church, where they cherished community and fellowship. A.G. was also known for his adaptability, becoming proficient in technology, including personal computers and accounting software like QuickBooks.

A.G. is remembered as a strong-willed, family-oriented individual deeply engaged in various business interests. He will be profoundly missed by his friends and family for his unique character. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.
