Austin, Texas – Ellen Margaret Miller Evgenides, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Austin on July 10, 2025. Her death comes just 11 weeks after the passing of her beloved husband, Costas Evgenides.

Ellen was actively involved in her community as a long-time member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, which she attended since 1985. She and her husband were known for their dedication to the church and their deep-rooted faith within the Orthodox Christian community.

Born on January 10, 1940, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Ellen was the first of eight children in her family. She grew up at the Windy Hill homestead in Robstown, where she enjoyed many playful days with her siblings. Her two sons, Timothy and Tobias, cherish their memories of visiting Windy Hill during summers spent in their childhood, filled with laughter and family bonding.

Ellen’s educational journey began at the University of Texas, where she met her future husband, Costas. They married on November 25, 1960, and eventually made their home in Austin. During their years together, Ellen converted to Orthodox Christianity, became fluent in Greek, and balanced her career alongside raising their two sons.

The Evgenides family grew to include grandchildren, Amani Alexander and Helen Evgenides, through Tim and his wife Keary Kinch, and Alistar Evgenides through Toby and his wife Sharon Wilson Evgenides. Ellen also leaves behind her sister Freda Miller of Portland, Oregon, and her brother Travis Miller of College Station, Texas, along with numerous other relatives and friends both near and far.

Her passing is felt deeply by all who knew her, not just for her familial ties, but also for her warm spirit and quick laughter that filled many moments with joy.

A celebration of Ellen’s life is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, at 10 AM at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, located at 414 St Stephens School Rd S, Austin, TX 78746. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ellen’s memory to either the Transfiguration Church or Hospice of Austin.

Ellen Margaret Miller Evgenides will be remembered fondly for her commitment to family, her service to her community, and the kindness she extended to all who crossed her path.
