AUSTIN, Texas – The community is grieving the loss of Amy Schreiber Barnard, a devoted educator and active supporter of children’s activities, who passed away peacefully at Christopher House in Austin on June 13, 2025, surrounded by family. She was 53 years old.

Barnard was born on February 15, 1972, in Lake Forest, Illinois. She graduated from Lake Forest High School in 1990, where she was an active member of the cheer squad, known for her positivity and making friends feel special. Following her high school graduation, Barnard attended the University of Kansas and later graduated from Baret College in Lake Forest in 1995 with a degree in Accounting.

She began her professional career as an auditor in the Office of Investigations and Audits at the Chicago Board of Trade. Barnard’s involvement in the Junior League of Chicago marked a significant turn in her life, where she met her future husband, Jimmy Barnard. They married in Chicago in 1999 and later relocated to Austin, Texas.

In Austin, Barnard served as the Director of Accounting at the University of Texas for many years, contributing significantly to the institution. Her community engagement extended beyond her career; she was an active member of the Junior League of Austin, participated in the Dell Children’s Trust, and was a board member of the Elizabeth Ann Seton Board. Additionally, she taught Sunday School at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, reflecting her commitment to nurturing the youth in her community.

As a mother to three children—Jimmy, Janie, and Andy Barnard—she was deeply involved in their education and extracurricular activities, frequently supporting them in school functions, sporting events, and scouting endeavors. Barnard instilled values of kindness and compassion in her children and was known for her contagious smile and a profound capacity for inclusivity.

Amy Schreiber Barnard’s interests extended beyond her professional life. She enjoyed traveling, hiking, snow-skiing, and spending time at the lake with her family, along with a passion for music, attending concerts, painting, and cooking. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, she cherished new adventures and experiences with loved ones.

Barnard is survived by her husband, her three children, her parents Linda and Fred Schreiber, her brother, her in-laws, her sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and her beloved dogs Elwood and Wrigley. Her legacy of kindness and community involvement will be remembered fondly by those whose lives she touched.

Services in her honor are scheduled for Friday, June 20, at 11 am at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Austin, followed by a Celebration of Life reception at Westwood Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to NAMI (namicentraltx.org) to support mental health awareness.

The community continues to express its sorrow at the loss of such a dedicated and loving individual, recalling the numerous ways Barnard contributed to making her community a better place.
