Austin – A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in northwest Austin. Waleed Beriji is accused of shooting 25-year-old Noah Talbott in the head following a dispute involving money at the Westdale Point Apartments.

The incident took place just after midnight on May 29 at the apartment complex located at 7117 Wood Hollow Drive. Authorities received a call regarding the shooting and promptly arrived on the scene to find Talbott suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, Talbott succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead the next afternoon.

According to investigations, the confrontation between Beriji and Talbott escalated from an argument about money. After the dispute, Beriji allegedly escorted Talbott to the front door of his apartment. It is reported that Beriji then retrieved a firearm from his bag and shot Talbott in the head.

Following the shooting, Beriji fled the scene before police could arrive. However, law enforcement were able to apprehend him later that day on South Congress Avenue. Initially, Beriji was booked into Travis County Jail, facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. However, following the unfortunate passing of Talbott on May 30, the charges against Beriji were escalated to first-degree murder.

This incident marks the 27th homicide in Austin for the year, highlighting an ongoing concern regarding violent crime in the area. The Austin Police Department (APD) is actively investigating the case and is encouraging anyone who may have additional information to come forward. Tips can be reported directly to the APD or through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers.

The shooting has drawn attention from the local community as incidents of gun violence continue to raise alarm. Each reported case underscores the significant impact of disputes escalating into violent confrontations, resulting in tragic outcomes.

The APD continues to emphasize the importance of community assistance in resolving violent crimes. By providing information, residents can play a crucial role in enhancing public safety and preventing future incidents.

This case serves as a poignant reminder of how disputes, no matter how trivial they may initially seem, can have devastating consequences when weapons are involved. As the investigation continues, the community is urged to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing issues related to violence and safety.
