Austin – The community of Austin is in mourning following the recent passings of two beloved residents, Ila “Sue” Cansler Adams and Edward (Ed) Paul Rogus, who both left behind rich legacies and cherished memories.
Ila “Sue” Cansler Adams, 80, passed away on May 10, 2025, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. Known for her gentle spirit and unwavering patience, she dedicated a significant part of her life to caring for children, nurturing them as if they were her own. Sue was born in Corsicana, Texas, and raised there, being a proud member of the Class of 1962 at Corsicana High School. She also attended the University of North Texas, where her love for education flourished.
Throughout her life, Sue lived in various parts of Texas, including Dallas and ultimately settling in Austin. A devoted Christian, she was an active member of Saint John’s United Methodist Church, where she formed deep connections within her community. In her later years, she resided at Buckner Villas, where she continued to forge new friendships.
In addition to her religious commitments, Sue had a passion for travel and exploring new recipes, showing her enthusiasm for diverse cuisines. She shared her love of cinema with her two sons, Glenn Wayne Adams and Tobin Lee Adams, who remember her fondly. Sue is also survived by her brother, Larry Lee Cansler, while she was preceded in death by her parents and half-brother.
Funeral services for Sue will take place on May 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Saint John’s United Methodist Church in Austin, followed by interment services at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana the next afternoon.
Meanwhile, Edward (Ed) Paul Rogus, 72, passed away on May 3, 2025, at St. David’s Hospital in Round Rock, Texas. Born on September 17, 1952, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, Ed spent his formative years in Snow Shoe, Pennsylvania, graduating from Bald Eagle Area High School in 1970. He pursued higher education at Williamsport Area Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology in 1972 and met his future wife, Carol.
Ed and Carol married in 1973, relocating to Texas five years later, with their journey marked by a memorable drive from Pennsylvania in a 1974 MGB. Ed achieved his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas in 1990 while working for BAE Systems. He ultimately retired in 2019 as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, leaving behind a commendable career.
Following his retirement, Ed indulged in a variety of hobbies, including golfing, constructing a backyard trail, completing household projects, and restoring classic cars. He was an active member of auto clubs and participated in numerous classic car shows throughout the Austin area. Ed and Carol also enjoyed spending summers in Central Pennsylvania to be closer to family and friends.
Ed was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Austin and is survived by his wife, Carol, their two sons, Jeff (and his wife, Stacey) and Gavin (and his wife, Danielle), along with grandchildren Garrett and Liam, not to mention beloved pets.
A memorial service for Ed will be held on May 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to People’s Community Clinic or Central Texas Food Bank.
As Austin reflects on the lives of Sue and Ed, their contributions to the community and the love they shared with family and friends will long be remembered.
