AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas at Austin softball team is gearing up for the NCAA Tournament, beginning this Friday as a No. 6 seed and hosting the Austin Regional. They will face Eastern Illinois in their opening game starting at 3:30 p.m. CT.

Coming off a challenging 14-2 loss to Texas A&M in the SEC tournament, Texas holds a season record of 46-10. The team aims to bounce back in the tournament with a strong performance at home. The winner of the Texas and Eastern Illinois game will advance to face the winner of the earlier matchup between No. 2 UCF and No. 3 Michigan.

The Austin Regional features a packed schedule. On Friday, May 16, the games will start with No. 3 Michigan vs. No. 2 UCF at 1 p.m. CT, broadcasting on ESPN2, followed by the Texas vs. Eastern Illinois match at 3:30 p.m. CT, which can be streamed on ESPN+. The subsequent games on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, will be determined based on the outcomes of Friday’s matches.

On the other side of the state, Texas A&M, which secured the No. 1 seed and also hosts a regional, will play against Saint Francis in its tournament opener. The Aggies concluded the season with a record of 45-9, impressively securing 19 wins against top-25 opponents.

If both Texas and Texas A&M progress in their respective regionals, they could host super regionals in the next round. Potential super regional opponents for Texas may include No. 11 Clemson, while Texas A&M might face Oregon.

Both teams are competing as part of the NCAA Division I Softball Championship, which has a total of 64 teams participating.
